Andres Iniesta's camp speaks on reuniting with Lionel Messi in MLS
FootballAguero Explains Why Messi Chose Inter Miami Over Reuniting With Ronaldo in Saudi Arabia
- Lionel Messi is settling in well at Inter Miami after choosing America when his PSG contract expired
- He turned down a lucrative offer to reignite his rivalry with Cristiano Ronaldo in Saudi Arabia
- His close friend Sergio Aguero has shed light on what influenced Messi's decision
Lionel Messi turned down a world record offer from Saudi Arabia Pro League side Al-Hilal to join David Beckham's Inter Miami, and his close friend Sergio Aguero thinks he knows why.
Messi is settling in nicely to life in Major League Soccer and has helped his new club to reach the Leagues Cup round of 16 after scoring in three consecutive victories over Cruz Azul, Atlanta United and Orlando City.
According to Forbes, the former Paris Saint-Germain attacker will earn between $50-60 mil, which is massively lower than the $545mil offered by Al-Hilal.
Aguero explains Messi's MLS decision
Retired Argentina striker and a close friend of Messi has opened up on why he thinks the World Cup winner ditched such a lucrative offer to settle for life in the United States.
Speaking to Stake.com via Sportskeeda, he said:
"I think that Leo opted for him and his family to be well and to be able to play as relaxed as possible. If he had been playing in Europe, obviously the requirement is different, and so he can’t play his last years the way he wanted, which is to enjoy, right?"
He added:
"I think that between Miami and Arabia, I think he chose Miami for convenience. Miami is a nice place, there are lots of Latinos, and I think he also saw it from the family side, which I think they can fit quite well in Miami, and in Arabia it can be more complicated, right? I think he saw nothing more than that."
A happy Messi is good news for Miami - and Argentina
FootballMessi's former Barcelona teammates, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, have joined him at the club. There were talks to bring Luis Suarez to the club, but an agreement could not be reached with Gremio.
Alba reacts after Messi reunion
Sports Brief reported that Jordi Alba made his Inter Miami debut coming off the bench in the second half of the 3-1 victory over Atlanta United in the Leagues Cup.
Alba, like Messi, turned down lucrative offers elsewhere to move to the MLS and admitted the club made the most effort to sign him and made him feel very important.
